What is Avamys?

Avamys (fluticasone furoate) belongs to a group of medicines called glucocorticoids. Avamys works by decreasing the inflammation caused by the allergy (rhinitis), and therefore, reduces allergy symptoms. Avamys nasal spray suspension is used to treat symptoms of allergic rhinitis including nasal congestion, increased runny nose, and itchy nose, sneezing and tearing, and itchy or red eyes in adults and children. 6 years or older. Allergic symptoms can appear at certain times of the year as a result of an allergy to plant or tree pollen (hay fever), or they can occur throughout the year as a result of allergies to animals, dust mites or molds, to name a few of the most common.

How does it work?

The active substance in Avamys, fluticasone fluoridate, is a corticosteroid. Act in a way similar to natural corticosteroid hormones, reducing the activity of the immune system by binding to the receptors of various types of immune cells. This produces a reduction in the release of substances involved in the inflammatory process, such as histamine, thus alleviating the allergy symptoms.

What are the benefits of taking it?

Avamys nasal spray uses include being indicated to treat the symptoms of allergic rhinitis. Allergic rhinitis is an inflammation of the nostrils caused by an allergy, which produces a runny nose, stuffy nose, itching, and sneezing It is usually accompanied by symptoms that affect the eyes, such as irritation, tearing or redness. Avamys is indicated for use in patients from 6 years of age. This medication is only available through prescription.

How do I use it and its dosage?

Always use this asthma medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Do not exceed the recommended dose. If in doubt, consult your doctor or pharmacist again.

When to use Avamys

  • Use once a day.
  • Use it at the same time each day.

This medication will treat your symptoms throughout the day and at night.

How long does Avamys take to take effect?

Some people will not feel the full effects until several days after starting Avamys.

However, it is generally effective 8 to 24 hours after use.

How much to use

Adults and children from 12 years

The normal starting Avamys dosage is 2 sprays in each nostril once every day.

Once symptoms are controlled, the dose may be decreased to 1 spray in each nostril, once every day.

Children from 6 to 11 years old

The normal starting dose is 1 spray in each nostril once a day.

If symptoms are very severe your doctor may increase the dose to 2 sprays in each nostril once every day, until symptoms are under control. Thereafter, the dose may be reduced to 1 spray in each nostril once every day.

How to use the nasal spray

Avamys has little taste or smell. It sprays into the nose like a fine mist. Be careful not to spray the medication into your eyes. If this happens, wash your eyes with water.

Side effects & precautions

Like all medicines, this allergy treatment medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. Allergic reactions: Get medical help immediately

Allergic reactions to Avamys are rare and affect less than 1 in 1,000 people. In a small number of people, allergic reactions can become more serious, even life-threatening if left untreated. Symptoms include:

  • a lot of wheezing (wheezing), coughing, or breathing difficulties
  • The sudden feeling of weakness or dizziness (leading to collapse or loss of consciousness)
  • swelling on the face
  • skin rash or redness.

In many cases, these symptoms will be signs of less serious side effects. But be aware that they can be potentially serious – so if you notice any of these symptoms:

  • Bleeding from the nose (usually minor), especially if you use Avamys for more than 6 weeks continuously.

Common side effects (may affect up to 1 in 10 people)

  • Nasal ulceration – which can cause irritation or discomfort in your nose. Traces of blood may appear when you blow your nose.
  • Headache
  • Shortness of breath.

Uncommon side effects (may affect up to 1 in 100 people)

  • Pain, burning, irritation, painful nasal sensation, or dryness inside the nose.

Very rare side effects (may affect up to 1 in 10,000 people)

  • Small holes (perforations) in the nasal septum that separates the nostrils.

Frequency not known (frequency cannot be estimated from the available data)

  • Slow growth in children.
  • Blurred vision or temporary changes in vision with prolonged use
  • Tightness in the chest causing difficulty breathing.
