About Differin Cream and Gel
Differin crem and gel contains the active ingredient adapalene. Adapalene is a form of vitamin A, which reduces the growth of keratin skin cells that would normally act to block pores in acne. Additionally adapalene increases the turnover of surface skin cells, aiding the natural exfoliation of the skin. These dual actions help to clear acne and leave skin looking clear and oil-free
Differin cream & gel contains the active ingredient adapalene and is used in the treatment of acne. Differin is a retinoid-like compound that is manufactured by Galderma UK Limited. What is Differin gel?
Differin gel is a Rosacea and Acne Treatment medication that has the main active ingredient, Adapalene, belongs to the category of retinoids, chemical compounds related to vitamin A. It is indicated for the local treatment (application on the skin) of acne vulgaris
with blackheads (relief of punctual skin), papules (small raised skin lesions without pus) and pustules (small skin lesions that contain pus). Differin Gel ingredients include the active substance is adapalene. The other ingredients are carbomer 940, propylene glycol (E1520), poloxamer 182, disodium edetate, methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E218), phenoxyethanol, sodium hydroxide, and purified water.
How does it work?
The differin gel uses the active ingredient, Adapalene binds, like tretinoin, to specific nuclear receptors for retinoic acid, but unlike tretinoin, it does not bind to cytosolic receptors. Adapalene administered topically is comedolytic in the mouse-rhino model and also has effects on abnormal processes of keratinization and epidermal differentiation, both present in the pathogenesis of acne vulgaris. The mechanism of action of adapalene may be a normalization of the differentiation of follicular epithelial cells, resulting in a decrease in the formation of microcomedones. In standard anti-inflammatory assays, adapalene is superior to reference retinoids, both in vivo and in vitro. Pharmacodynamically, it inhibits the chemotactic and chemokinetic responses of human polymorphonuclear leukocytes and the metabolism by lipoxidation of arachidonic acid to pro-inflammatory mediators. This profile suggests that the mediating cells of the inflammatory component of acne may be modified by adapalene. Studies in human patients provide clinical evidence that adapalene topical is effective
in reducing the inflammatory component of acne (papules and pustules).
