About Noriday Tablets

Noriday is a progestogen-only oral contraceptive. It is particularly useful for women for whom oestrogens may not be appropriate.

How to take Noriday

Take 1 pill every day, at the same time. Take the packs back-to-back without a break, including during your period.

It is very important to take the pill at the same time daily. If you are more than 3hrs late, you will not have contraceptive protection.

How does Noriday work?

Noriday is a form of progestogen-only mini pill. Its active ingredient is norethisterone, which changes the environment in your womb. This makes it harder for the sperm to reach an egg during ovulation and alters the lining of the womb so that a fertilised egg cannot develop. Noriday is an effective means of contraception.

How long Noriday takes to work depends on when you begin taking the pill. You’ll be protected from pregnancy straight away if you take it on days 1-5 of your period.

If you start taking Noriday after day 5 of your period, it’ll take 2 days to work, so you’ll need to use condoms for 2 days.

How effective is Noriday?

Used correctly, it can be up to 99% effective in preventing pregnancy. However, if you are vomiting or have severe diarrhoea you may not be protected against pregnancy. If this happens, continue to take the pill as usual but use a condom whilst you’re ill. If this continues for more than 24 hours you should follow the same steps as a missed pill.

If you are more than 3hrs late taking it, you will not have contraceptive protection.

What are the side effects of Noriday?

Most women will not experience any side effects on Noriday. However, side effects are possible and can include headaches, feeling sick or dizzy, mood swings, breast discomfort or irregular periods.

For full information on side effects and correct use, see the patient information leaflet. If any side effects concern you, contact us via your Patient Record.

What should I do if I miss the pill?

Take the forgotten pill as soon as you remember. Then take the next pill at the normal time. This may mean taking 2 pills in one day.

If you do not take it within 3 hours of the usual time, you will not be protected against pregnancy. Continue to take your pills as normal, but use a condom for the next 2 days. If you’ve had unprotected sex during this time, you may need emergency contraception.
